    Sunday, April 23, 2017 - 9:00am Join us for the Eighth Annual Barton Foundation Sporting Clay Shoot Fundraiser! This event raises funds for Barton faculty mini-grants. Participants may register as competition for individuals or three-person teams. The entry fee is $60 per person before April 1, or $70 after April 1 (entry fee includes lunch and 100 sporting clays - shells not included but can be purchased at the event).   4. County Commission Meeting

    Barton County Commissioners meet at 9 a.m. Mondays, or on a Tuesday following a Monday holiday, in the County Commission Chambers located in the Barton County Courthouse, Room 106. The commissioners conduct an agenda session at 9 a.m. After the agenda meeting, the commissioners conduct study sessions. Study sessions provide an opportunity for the commissioners to discuss items that may appear in future agenda sessions. Citizens are invited and encouraged to attend both agenda and study sessions.     The Kansas Wetlands Education Center, along with Kansas Department of Wildlife Parks & Tourism, The Nature Conservancy, Great Bend Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Kansas Birding Festival, Inc., hosts this 2-day birding festival every other year on odd numbered years. Paid registration for the festival includes three or four guided birding fieldtrips with transportation, workshops and seminars, breakfast, 2 dinners, and snacks. Events take place at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center at Cheyenne Bottoms and the Best Western Courtyard in Great Bend.

At 8:00 p.m. a live auction kicks off with our auctioneer for the evening, T.R. Esfeld. Admission is $50 per person, or $450 for a table of ten.   30. Relay for Life 5K Run/Walk

    The Relay for Life teams from Heartland Cancer Center and Great Bend Regional Hospital are working together to organize a 5K Run/Walk for Saturday, April 29, 2017 to benefit Relay for Life, which supports the American Cancer Society. The professionally timed race event will start and finish at Veterans Memorial Park in Great Bend. Registration opens at 7 a.m., with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. Medals will be awarded in six age groups, with prizes for the top male and female finishers overall. Registration is $25 before April 15th, which includes an event t-shirt. After April 15th, registration increases to $35 per person with t-shirt sizes not guaranteed. Walk-in registration will also be available on the day of the race. After the runners are back at the finish line, there will be a free breakfast served to all runners and concessions available for non-racers, with all proceeds benefiting the Relay for Life fundraiser.
