Crossing Guards/Police Department
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for Crossing Guards. Primary responsibilities include assisting school children in safely crossing streets or highways at designated areas throughout the city while school is in session. Hours may vary slightly, but will generally consist of approximately one hour before school begins in the morning, and one hour after school is dismissed in the afternoon. The City of Great Bend is accepting applications for the position of City Administrator.
The minimum job requirements are:
1) Master's degree in Public or Business Administration, or related field; and
2) seven years of local government management experience; or any combination of education, training, and experience which would qualify for the position as determined by the City.

The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for the position of Network Administrator.
Under general supervision from the City Clerk/Finance Director with guidance from the City Administrator, the Network Administrator shall be responsible for all software installation, backups, upgrades, all required maintenance of the City of Great Bend’s computers, networks and city wide Information Technology (I.T.) systems. The Network Administrator is responsible for technical assistance, systems training and all application software and hardware support for City employees as well as instruction on security related best-practices. The Network Administrator is responsible for the strategic vision and overall planning for the current and future technology needs of the City. Bachelor’s Degree in I.T., computer science or related field of study preferred. Associate’s Degree required or a combination of experience and/or training equivalent to an Associate’s Degree with an emphasis in the field of I.T. and computer science and at least three years of related experience. This position requires ongoing CJIS certification as well as other certifications which may be required resulting from needed software. Police Officer/Police Department: The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for Police Officers. Primary responsibilities include patrol work, assisting with the prevention of crime and the enforcement of traffic laws and regulations. All aspects of police work will be involved, including responding to dispatches, investigations, report preparation, making arrests, issuing citations, etc. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and must be at least 21 years of age. Some college level work in law enforcement is desirable. In addition, candidate must possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to achieve basic law enforcement certification by the State of Kansas within one year of appointment. Applicants will be subject to written and physical agility tests, an oral interview, a thorough background check, and additional conditional job testing. Applicants must not have any Brady/ Giglio material in their background that would make them ineligible for hiring. Firefighter- EMT, Paramedic/Fire Department: The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Firefighter/ EMT or Paramedic. Primary responsibilities include fire protection and EMS response/transport. Applicants will operate fire fighting and ambulance equipment and participate in fire prevention programs, public education and fire inspections. Applicants will also make ambulance and rescue runs and be responsible for station maintenance and training activities. This position requires a thorough knowledge of the operation and maintenance of equipment and principles of fire science, EMS , and department operations. It also requires the ability to follow written and oral instructions, read and understand technical manuals, effectively communicate with co-workers, supervisors, and the general public, and exercise independent judgment. Successful candidates should have a high school diploma or GED and be 18 years of age or older. In addition, applicants must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license and EMT certification prior to hire. We will accept either C.P.A.T. or applicant will be subject to in-house physical agility and Fire Team written test. Service Person I /Street Department:
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for Service Person I with the Street Department. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the maintenance, construction and repair of streets, roadways, alleys, ditches, dikes and other Public Works facilities and/or projects. This position requires the ability to successfully operate light vehicles and trucks, tractors and other equipment incidental to the work of the department. This position helps install street signs, paint, perform building and facilities maintenance, assist with snow removal from city streets, mow and other duties as assigned. This position requires a high school diploma or equivalent. Experience in construction and maintenance work including experience in the operation of equipment is preferred. Service Person I/ Water Department :
The City of Great Bend is currently accepting applications for a Service Person I at the Public Works Water Department. Primary responsibilities include skilled and semi-skilled duties related to the operation and maintenance of the water system. Position requires working outdoors and involves occasional heavy physical activity. Some experience in construction work including the operation of equipment is preferred.
