[ARCHIVED] GBPD Officer Millard Takes Off-Duty Action in Wichita Shooting

On August 8th, Great Bend Police Department School Resource Officer Paul Millard stepped into action and detained a suspect of an armed assault while off-duty at Towne East Mall in Wichita. 

Millard and his wife spent the afternoon shopping and just exited Scheels around 3:30 p.m. when gunshots went off nearby. Quickly launching into action, Millard restricted one of the suspects who was in possession of a firearm while waiting for Wichita officers arrived on scene. 

Serving on the GBPD for 27 years, Millard relied on his on his training and instincts to help stop the threat and ensure no further injury was caused. Two victims, ages 15 and 17, were taken to the hospital with gunshot wounds but were reported to be in stable condition. The primary 17-year-old suspect has been charged with two counts of attempted murder and Wichita Police said two other suspects, both 16 years old, have been arrested in connection. 

The GBPD said in a Facebook post, "His actions reflect the very best of what it means to serve and protect—whether on the clock or not. We are proud to have him as a member of the Great Bend Police Department—and as a dedicated part of our community."
