The Great Bend Municipal Airport is formalizing its planned request to re-construct the crosswind runway 11-29. The existing pavement consists of World War II(1943) concrete with a 45-year-old asphalt overlay and is now beyond its useful life.
Due to recent design regulations, the new runway would be moved away from its current intersection with the primary runway 17-35, and the existing Taxiway B will be extended to meet the approach end of runway 29. The proposed runway length and width will depend on Federal Aviation Administration(FAA) criteria regarding wind trends and aircraft usage. The project, if approved, would likely be 90% funded by the FAA, with design approval in 2024 and construction in 2025.
