David Dunekack started his position as Public Works Director on October 13, 2025, and oversees street and alleyway maintenance, along with snow and ice removal, flood control and composite site management.
A native of Great Bend, Dunekack has spent his entire 25-year career in various roles around the area. He began as a lab and plant foreman at Venture Corporation where for nine years he oversaw quality control testing of asphalt on job sites, ensured compliance with safety standards in plant production and supervised a small lab team. In October 2009, he moved to Stone Sand Company where he worked as a truck driver, heavy equipment operator and sand plant operator for six years before taking on a role as a sprayer operator for Crosby Farms. Dunekack later partnered with a friend who started FND Ag Solutions – also a spraying business – where he has spent the last five years.
Dunekack earned his associate degree from Barton Community College in 1994 and a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in Horticulture from Kansas State University in 1998. He also holds certifications with a Class A CDL License and Pesticide Applicator License, along with experience working with land owners, farmers and state regulations.
