Barton Community College

Located about two miles northeast of Great Bend city limits, Barton Community College has served as the area's public college since 1965. BCC offers over 106 programs through online and on-site education including associate degrees and certificates. A member of the Jayhawk Conference and National Junior College Athletics Association, Cougar athletic teams have won 60 National Championships.

Great Bend has a strong education system with five public elementary schools, an early childhood center, one middle school and one high school. For the 2024-25 school year, USD 428 totaled 2,869 students, 656 employees and produced a graduation rate of 92.4%.
