The City of Great Bend is governed by a Mayor and City Council who are elected by the people of the City. The Mayor and City Council acting together are the Governing Body. This form of government consists of the Mayor, who is elected by the City at large, and eight Council members, two elected from each ward of the City. All Governing Body members serve two year terms. The Governing Body, being the elected representatives of the people, adopts all ordinances and resolutions and determines the general goals and policies.
From time to time the governing body holds team building work sessions to receive more detailed information from staff on specific projects. All meetings of the Great Bend Governing Body are open to the public.
