Technical Services

The Great Bend Fire Department provides a variety of technical rescue services to the City of Great Bend and surrounding areas.

Technical Rescue Team

The Great Bend Fire Department’s technical rescue team is comprised of 8 personnel. All members of the technical rescue team are trained as Structural Collapse Technicians to provide high angle rope rescue, low angle rope rescue, trench rescue, confined space rescue and structural collapse rescue.

Dive Team

The Great Bend Fire Department’s dive team is trained in various aspects of water rescue. The dive team responds to and assists in dive emergencies and underwater recovery. The dive team can also assist local police agencies with evidence recovery. Two boats are operated out of the department to support the team.

Multiple bodies of water in the area provide the water rescue team with opportunities to practice water rescue.

Task Force 5

The Great Bend Fire Department is a member of Task Force 5. In addition to Great Bend Fire Department, this group is comprised of Hutchinson, Newton, Sedgwick County, Wichita, Derby, Ark City and Winfield Fire Departments. These technical rescue members form a state deployable search and rescue team that is similar to the national Urban Search & Rescue (USR) team. This group is activated in times of natural disasters, grain entrapments, trench emergencies or any large scale technical emergency where they are needed.
